Da Bears

Sorry. I couldn't resist since Sunday was pre-season kick-off. Wasn't it? I'm not really into football, but I know it was on TV Sunday. Anyway, not the point...

Two weekends ago, we went to the zoo. This was Jake's first time. And it was the first time in a long time for the rest of us. We got a family membership, so now we can go year-round for FREE!! How cool is that?!?! If we had a cooler zoo, it would make the deal much sweeter, but oh well. It was really too hot to go walking around the smelly zoo, but we had fun - although, I think it was a bit overwhelming for Jake. Don't get me wrong - he likes animals and learning their sounds, but he's never seen (big) animals up close and personal like that.

Our first stop was the giraffe, but the first picture I thought to take was of Terry's cousin. HA! Just kidding.

The next two are pictures that Austin took. I don't know what the little bird is.
Our boys.....
I don't know that I've ever seen a flamingo walking around. They always seem to have their head tucked under their wings, but this guy was cracking me up! He squawked the whole time we were standing there! He just kept walking (almost running) closer and closer to the wall.
The closest thing we came to petting (other than Mr. Flamingo) were the prairie dogs. Although there are warning signs all over the "cage", we could have reached in and touched them.

The little girl next to me said, "...but mom, they don't look like dogs...". That made me laugh. And she has a point. Why are they called prairie DOGS, when they clearly look more like a small beaver/larger squirrel/fat ferret?
Jake thought it was funny to go in the tunnels under the prairie beaver/squirrel/ferret, but he didn't understand why Austin was shoving him up through the hole.
Oh! We never saw any bears.....
