Angel Airplanes

This past weekend, Austin's Boy Scout Troop went to the
Blue Angels Homecoming Show
in Pensacola.
As soon as I heard about the trip, I knew I wanted to go.
It would be a great time to introduce Jake to the (real) ocean.
And I think the airshows are kinda cool too.

Terry was unable to get off work,
so Friday morning we headed out with another
"scout mom" and her daughter.

Luckily we were able to follow Big Dog
so we didn't have to worry about getting lost.
We did fail to follow-the-leader at one exit,
but we don't have to talk about that....

Since the boys wouldn't arrive on base to setup camp
until about 11pm,
the other mom and I decided we would setup
all 8 tents when we made it there.
Thanks to Big Dog for stakin' 'em in the ground for us.

Once we finally made it to the campsite,
we got to work.
We put up 8 tents in just under 2 hours.
I think that's pretty good.
Check out our hard work!
Looks good, huh?
It was just getting dark when we finished,
so we headed to the hotel to get cleaned up for supper.

What?!?!
You didn't think I was going to drive all that way
and then sleep outside with two babies did you?

The next morning we went to check on the boys at camp.
Football is one of their favorite things to help pass time between
"their regularly scheduled programs".
THEN........

we headed to the BEACH!

Jake thinks Lake Garaywa is the ocean,
so he was in for a pretty big treat!
He LOVED it!
For the most part.

The water was quite choppy,
but it was a bit too chilly to get in the water anyway.

He liked running and playing in the sand,
but said the water scared him.
We WILL go back soon when it's warm enough to get in the water.
I think he'll change his mind them.

As we were getting ready to leave I spotted a sand crab.
I scooped him up and took him to Jake.
It didn't take long for Jake to decide he wanted to pick him up!

I'm glad Jake never got a good grip -
if he had, I'm afraid the little crab would have been squished!

Once we got cleaned up from the beach,
we headed back to
Pensacola Naval Air Station
to see the
Blue Angels Air Show
or, as Jake calls them,
the "Angel Airplanes".

Jake wouldn't leave his earplugs in.
Although he liked the airshow,
he also thought the Angel Airplanes were
"bery noisy".
Once we had had enough of the noisy airplanes we headed to
shelter to help block the noise.
But we didn't sit for long.

Jake quickly learned that this big plane had stairs.
Luckily Austin found us just in time to stand in line with Jake
so Allie could eat.

Both boys thought the cockpit was pretty cool,
but I'm pretty sure Jake could have stayed there all day!
And, of course, Austin tried to avoid the camera.

Jake didn't mind me taking his picture -
he just wanted to know where the key was!

We had a really nice time,
and I'm so glad we were able to go.
Surprisingly, Allie complained the least.
I hope she continues to be so laid back.
If so, maybe we can go back next year for the
Blue Angels 100th Anniversary show!
