This morning, despite the "Extreme Heat Advisory" - or whatever they call it - we did just that. We went on a hike at the Nature Center.
We left the house around 8:30 when the temps were still in the lower 80's so it wasn't too bad.
Austin has been to the Nature Center twice before, so he was our guide.
Although we didn't see the two main things he wanted to show us - we still had fun.
But I've made a mental note to only go between the months of September and April and to NOT take the stroller.
I didn't know we would have to go up and down 378 stairs!

Before we were even two minutes into out hike, Austin spotted the first "critter" - a baby frog. Jake was a little unsure of the frog, but I didn't blame him.
All the boys.
Jake thought he was one of the big boys today and Joshua and Austin were so good with him.
We stopped for a little rest at one of the "lookout" points.
Not sure what Jake was doing here.
Joshua found our second critter - another frog.
Frogs (and bugs) were the only thing we saw, and that was just fine with me!
I was so worried we would see a snake!
Jake was all about the second frog. He wanted to hold it as soon as Joshua picked it up!

At the end of the trail, there was a Butterfly Garden.......but no butterflies.
Just an old wagon that I thought was neat.

For some reason I just had to take a picture of these flowers.
I was actually hoping to get a shot of the bee having a snack.

I'm guessing this is a butterfly house??
As we were making it back to the van, I was quite thankful for the thick trees.
Had it not been for the trees, this hike would have been miserably hot!

After holding the itty bitty frog, Jake thought he could hold everything - even this nasty looking creature.
I would love to know what this thing is, but I don't care to ever be as close as I was to it again.

Snack time!
I told Austin and Joshua that this is a glimpse of them in 60 years - two old men sittin' on the porch in their rockin' chairs talkin' bout the good ole days.
